You may have thought you'd seen it all when it comes to art,
installation and performance event coming to Copeland
Arts in Santa Fe is unlike anything you've ever run across.
The happening, titled "Scans" is being created and presented
by Iris Lohninger.
"Scans" is a fusion of several different artistic mediums and
is meant to be a dynamic art experience, reflecting and
the emotions and character of the people who view it and
Iris, a visual artist, has created a series of eight highly
charged, abstract oil paintings: for "Scans". These six foot
canvases have been wrapped around lightweight metal frames
rotate, presenting cylindrical, moving paintings.
Karl Lohninger, a musician, will perform an improvised
musical score at
event, which will both create and respond to the atmosphere
within the gallery. The music will be performed on guitars and
steel guitar, as well as through his manipulation of sound
feedback loop processor.
Notes Iris, "I am interested in experimenting with the form
paintings. These shapes are more fun and project the image
Says Karl, "I began in classical guitar and voice, but it was
narrow, too closely defined for me."
Their careers have included work in painting, animation,
and classic voice, as well as "digital landscapes" and other
mediums. In short, they are intent upon stretching the
boundaries of art as seen, heard and felt in this most unusual
